We are JaneJaney — Jane Wheeler and Janey Gardiner — Designers who transform spaces for performance, venues and public areas.

We established our studio in 2010 as Set and Costume Designers and have grown a practice that spans traditional performance, immersive productions, events, installations and interior design.

The link that binds our work is creative collaboration. We love collaborating with others on innovative and ambitious projects.

So be it working with the Royal Opera House to create temporary installations to attract new audiences, or Soho Theatre/Waltham Forest Council to re-imagine the interiors of an historic building into a comfortable new venue, we are at our best when we are creating something truly original with those who want to do the same.

With all of our projects our aim is to create a genuine and authentic connection with the people who will be watching/visiting or inhabiting.

To this end, we involve schools, universities and the community in our designs, offering up ownership at the outset to local people. This not only creates a better project for everyone – ones with heart and soul – but it can also be totally transformative for those involved.  And that really is the point for us.

As well as designing, Janey has 35 years experience lecturing and running industry and degree level courses in set, costume design and prop making. This has included Wimbledon School of Art, Slade, Central St. Martins, and Brighton Film School.

Jane is also a Scenic Artist working across theatre, TV and events, including Royal Ballet and Opera, National Theatre, Glyndebourne, Almeida, Headlong, V&A, Chanel, Amazon and Netflix.

Essentially, between us we have a whole breadth of art, design and making skills, and we know how to excite and enthuse others in the act of creating as well.

Past design collaborations include Royal Ballet and Opera, Rambert, Brighton Festival, Latitude Festival, Secret Cinema and Soho Theatre.
